HiPER STARE® is a data access solution used to catalog, organize and share large volumes of Wide Area Surveillance (WAS) within a cloud-based architecture. HiPER STARE® provides SaaS applications and data consumers access to WAS data via RESTful Web services.
Throughout military history technological developments have substantially disrupted the methods of conventional warfare. In general terms, the evolution of weapons and weapon delivery systems, small arms, tanks, and aircraft for example, have forced changes in the warfare tactics. Speed and efficiency with which military forces can be deployed is a significant factor in determining military advantage over its adversary. Perhaps the most significant trend in the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) market over the past few years has been the spectacular growth in data volumes. Innovative sensor platforms with improving optics have increased the complexity in which analysts can effectively manage Wide Area Surveillance (WAS) data. Thus, meeting growing demands for highly intelligent analytical products in a timely manner requires a disruptive approach.
PIXIA® is the industry leader in providing BIG Data solutions to access, organize, and share large volumes of motion imagery within a cloud-based architecture. Our breakthrough storage input-output (I/O) engine provides blazing speed and unlimited scalability on any storage vendor while still providing direct access back to source files.
Transform into Video
HiPER STARE® is an intuitive, easy-to-use system that lets you organize varying types of Wide Area Surveillance data. Disparate data could be collected using different sensor platforms or varying spectrums (electric-optic or infrared). HiPER STARE® provides a manner in which to transform frame-based files into spatially-specific products in various file formats or stream-based feeds in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2.
You’ll be surprised at how easily analysts can fuse data into meaningful analytical products.
And when new data arrives, rapid updates can be patched into existing layers with a click of a button. No need to rebuild an entire cache of a layer; data is copied into place spatially and is immediately accessible within seconds.
Collecting data real-time? Live-Encode! With our watch folders, users can real-time ingest data as it is received and disseminate.
Allowing data to live where it was collected: Theater, Ground Station, and Forward Operation Base (FOB). No longer does an organization need to ship or move data physically from a collection point but rather make that GEOINT data instantly accessible!

Wide Area Surveillance (WAS), also sometimes called Wide Area Motion Imagery (WAMI) or Persistent Surveillance, has become an increasingly important DOD capability in recent years.
Taken as a whole, ISR encompasses the set of processes that aims to provide accurate, relevant, and timely information to the decision maker. In previous conflicts, particularly in major combat operations, ISR was employed primarily to obtain the high-quality information required to strike a target. The current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, characterized by extended, low-intensity operations, have demonstrated the value of ISR in a broader range of activities, from identifying improvised explosive device (IED) emplacement to understanding "patterns of life" of civilian populations. As a consequence, over the past few years, the demand for ISR has skyrocketed.
The HiPER STARE® Solution addresses the extensive processing, exploitation, and dissemination (PED) architecture required by the DOD and Intelligence Community to provide ISR capabilities to the warfighter. The solution provides support for a wide variety of electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) sensors, such as:
- Constant Hawk
- Blue Devil
- Gorgon Stare
- Tethered AeroStats
- Airborne Wide Area Persistent Surveillance Sensor (AWAPSS)
- Autonomous Real-time Ground Ubiquitous Surveillance Imaging System (ARGUS-IS)
Activity Based Intelligence
"ABI requires a fundamental shift in technology, tradecraft, training, policies and the way we think about intelligence problems. Implemented correctly, the ABI approach has the potential to vastly improve our understanding of groups and individuals and their interactions and transactions with one another at an operational level."
BIG Data Analytics
"Building applications and the architectures that run in the Data Cloud requires new thinking about scale, elasticity, and resilience."
"GMTI is a key technology providing U.S. forces critical, unprecedented information superiority with the potential to transform warfighting."
PIXIA® is the author of the WAMI web-services specification currently under review by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). HiPER STARE® provides open standards for WAS data to integrate into larger architectures. By implementing industry OPEN standards, HiPER STARE® has achieved a level of interoperability for all thick and thin client applications that users can leverage.
