In 1999, the founders of the company recognized the general technological trends of digital imaging industry. They predicted that due to the increased performance and cost efficiencies in the realms of image acquisition, storage and display technology, digital imagery data sets would grow at exponential rates. As such, they believed there was an impending demand for high performance cost effective solutions to handle such large imagery data sets. Furthermore, they recognized that creating such solutions would require a new and fresh approach focused solely on this purpose.

Years of vigorous research and development followed. Initially Pixia developed a solution based on proprietary hardware known as the MediaStation II. Pixia's development team gained valuable insight into hardware optimizations when forced to write their own operating system, file system, and low-level hardware drivers.

Pixia subsequently ported their solutions to Windows® Platforms. Today, Pixia offers a wide array of software products that represent a revolutionary approach to digital imaging.
